A strategic framework for the
region, based on research and consultation from
the Northern Rivers Regional Strategy planning
process. Includes a suggested vision for the
future of the region, guiding principles, policies,
a set of specific results to be achieved by
the year 2016, a list of possible action plans
and a schematic structure plan setting out a
possible settlement hierarchy and important
regional resources. The framework provided the
first step in developing a regional strategy
by identifying what the regional strategy might
contain and what the broad direction for the
future might be. The framework was used to seek
comment and feedback before developing a draft
strategy. |

The Structure Plan looks at key
elements or parts which combined give a framework
to the long term physical make-up and character
of the region. The structure plan seeks to follow
on from what was called the “North Coast
Functional Hierarchy” outlined in the
North Coast Planning Strategy of 1995 (NCUPS)
work to provide better clarity with respect
to:
• the form and character of settlement
• major regional corridors
• major regional ports
• important regional greenbelts
• important regional agricultural lands
• industrial areas of regional importance
• extractive industry sites of regional
importance.
