Planning for the future [ Back | Bottom | Home ]

The Northern Rivers region of NSW has developed an award winning plan to ensure that future growth in the area is ecologically sustainable and based on the aspirations of its communities. The plan is called the Northern Rivers Regional Strategy.

The Strategy is a process using best practice planning and information technology to integrate land use and socio-cultural changes in this unique part of Australia. It sets out how the people of the region want to influence their future in the face of constant change – and that of their children.

The Northern Rivers Regional Strategy is a partnership of:

• The Northern Development Task Force
• The Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils (NOROC)
The Northern Rivers Regional Development Board and
PlanningNSW in association with the region’s communities.

In September 2002, the Minister for Planning, the Hon Andrew Refshauge MP announced that regional strategy work, as part of the implementation of planFIRST would commence in the Northern Rivers and five other regions of NSW.

The Northern Rivers was identified for commencement of this approach partly due to the planning and consultation process and work developed by the Northern Rivers Regional Strategy. This means that the Strategy is currently in a process of transition to planFIRST. The existing work and resources on this site continue to be relevant and are valuable for strategic and local planning throughout the Northern Rivers.

Sustainable Northern Rivers, our ecology, our community, our economy
